Stay Inside the Lines

Today Yesterday before school I got bored so I colored in this sketch, originally by Frank Stoner.

Obviously I can't take any credit for the original piece, and my addition is very small but I thought I'd share it anyway because it is bright and happy, and sometimes we need that.

X-Stupid

After watching X-Men 3 again tonight, I've gotta say I would have totally been on Magneto's side. I mean, what the hell were the X-Men thinking? The government had weaponized the mutant cure and put it in the hands of the military, and even used it for crying out loud. If that doesn't constitute an act of war or elicit some kind of response, then I don't know what does. What exactly would it take for those guys to take on somebody other than their own kind?

And what did they even accomplish anyway? I take it their motivation was they wanted to protect the rights of the mutants to be cured if they so choose. But they only ended up getting a whole bunch of people killed and now the drug is off the market anyway because that bald mutant kid is no longer producing it. He's off in X-School. He's probably not making any friends because they can't do their cool superpower shit when he's around.

God. Stupid.

Another thing that bugs me, why introduce all these retarded mutants like Blowfish Man and Gothic Transvestite when there was a plethora of some of the coolest mutants, such as Gambit, waiting in the wings? I don't even care if they put him on Magneto's side, I just want to see him in a movie. And the Fast Running Girl is really just a poor man's Quicksilver, so why not just use him?

I am such a nerd.

Saturday Coffee Blogging

You know what's good? French press coffee. You're probably laughing right now because you're all like, "Fool, I knew about French press like forever ago." But I just tried it two days ago, so shut up. Just shut up.

The proprietor of RC Coffee (who should totally get a website so I can link to it, wink wink) said something like it has all the essential oils of the coffee still in it because there is no filter to, you know, filter them out. Therefore there's less bitter aftertaste. So I was like yeah yeah, sure, we'll see. But she was right! Maybe it's just power of suggestion but it actually was a much more pleasant experience than drinking drip brew coffee.

As much as I love a well-made cappucino or latte, I've never gotten used to the taste of drip-brew coffee. I thought I just needed to "get used to it" or that I was a "pussy," but it turns out it's just because drip-brew coffee sucks big time.

So then, X-Mas wishlist: French press, Wii.

Also delicious: Starbucks' Maple Macchiato. I have no idea if I spelled that correctly. It looks vaguely Italian, and that's what counts.

Into the Fold

If you take a glance at the archives you'll notice quite a few "new" entries. I've spent the last hour or two importing all the worthwhile posts from Homogenized (to qualify as "worthwhile" basically means a post had some content in it besides updates internal to the site).

Why have I done this? Because the launching of matthewripley.com means the end of Homogenized. Sad, I know, but I don't need two portfolio sites. I'll be closing Homogenized down shortly. So, uh, enjoy it while you still can? And enjoy the new old content in the archives, one or two posts might even be worth your time to read.

By the Way

We're all going to die.

The previous statment would still be true even if it didn't contain that link. But sometimes I think it's nice to be reminded of some of the specific ways we've come up with to ensure our demise as a species.

I Wanna See Movies of My Dreams

Built to Spill - Car

This song unfolds perfectly. It starts quiet and contemplative. Doug Martsch stresses over logistics of his impending voyage with...someone.

I need a car, you need a guide who needs a map/if I don't die or worse I'm gonna need a nap

Then, as they drive away, everything just opens up, and the song becomes a sprawling two minute epic. His mind wanders, as minds are wont to do on 15 hour car rides, and he muses on how he wants to see "movies of [his] dreams." Who wouldn't?

Speaking of which, everybody seems to be talking and raving over The Science of Sleep, the new Michel Gondry film. Unfortunately I live in a cultural vacuum and it doesn't seem to be playing anywhere in a 25-mile radius. Ugh.

There are approximately 70 movie screens that I can think of within five miles of my house, and they probably show about 15 movies between them.
