Luna Park

For Connie's birthday on Monday we went to Luna Park with a couple of friends. It was a cozy little restaurant in the Miracle Mile District on La Brea and Wilshire. Apparently the place was started in San Francisco, and it was a hit, so they opened one in New York and one in LA too. I found amazing street parking on La Brea, but everybody was concerned that I would either get a ticket or get my car broken in to. Though I wasn't terribly concerned, I brought my iPod in with me anyway. You can have my car, but you'll have to pry my music from my cold dead fingers.

So like I said, the restaurant was a cozy little place. We had a wooden booth enclosed by curtains, but I felt more than a little bit douchebag-esque when they were closed. They served a nice blend of different kinds of food (Italian, French, American) with an emphasis on comfort food. I ordered the flat-iron steak with salsa verde, which was delicious, but too small to be ultimately satisfying. I think they knew this because the remaining 5/6 of the plate was filled with french fries.

smoresAs if the comfort food angle weren't obvious enough the dessert menu makes it explicit with a plate of chocolate chip cookies and make-your-own s'mores. (Aside: it's prounounced smores, people. One syllable. Not suh-mores. If it was supposed to be two syllables why wouldn't they just be called "some mores" and forego the whole contraction?) We had the s'mores, which were probably the closest thing to gourmet that a s'more could get. The graham crackers were homemade, and the marshmallows and dark chocolate came pre-melted and served hovering over candles.

All in all it was a very nice atmosphere, tasty food and decent prices, although the cocktails were a bit pricey.

So, this is Neckbeard.

The goal here is to create a place where I can put more personal writings and keep Homogenized as a portfolio site. Hopefully, it will give me the excuse to write a little more too.

Oh, and it's called that because I have a neckbeard, i.e. I don't grow any hair on my cheeks. I'm ok with that.
