This is what I have been enjoying lately:
The Constantines - Shine a Light
The Constantines play rock music, and they play it without irony and without pretense. Shine a Light is a breath of fresh air in the current overly-posturing indie rock crowd.
The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone?
Deliciously strange and experimental, yet the Unicorns manage to still write some of the stickiest pop hooks around. A melange of dancepunk, indie rock, electronica and folk makes this one of the most compelling records I’ve recently listented to.
The Black Keys - The Big Come Up
I loved Thickfreakness, but until now never sought out this wonderful debut by garage-blues kids The Black Keys. If you ever have the chance to see them live make sure you do, they were one of the highlights of the Coachella festival.
Mount Eerie - Seven New Songs of Mount Eerie
Phil Elvrum/Elverum is finally back with a proper studio album. It sounds like vintage Microphones material, and I couldn’t be happier.
